Alex has studied, worked, and taught organizational effectiveness for almost three decades. He earned his MBA in HR at McGill University in Montréal, and is a Certified HR Executive by the Human Resources Professionals Association in his home province of Ontario, Canada. Alex had achieved career progression to the VP and Director level in the Canadian banks prior to breaking out and founding ENGAGE HR in 2004. The firm has served over 350 clients, across a wide range of industry sectors, on more than 1,200 projects. Alex has taught master’s level human resources and leadership courses at varying times for McGill University, in both Montréal and Tokyo, and continues this work at the University of Toronto. He achieved the Institute for Corporate Directors – Director designation in 2010, putting him among peers in working with private, association, government and public company boards.
His primary focus is bringing out the best results for shareholders, management, and the employees who get the job done, through the effective integration of strategy, structure and people. Alex dives deep into organizational culture and intercultural management for any organization that wishes to achieve continuous improvement in organizational effectiveness. This ranges from start-ups to long established organizations needing revitalization. It is in this vein that he upgraded his skill set and joined Hofstede Insights as an Associate Partner in 2018, based on increasingly international client needs, and his ongoing commitment to ‘walking the talk’ on the journey of lifelong learning.
In his not so private life, Alex coaches a teenage boy’s hockey team to move a bit further toward Collectivism, while reducing Indulgent tendencies that tend to lead to time in the penalty box, on and off the ice.
