Originally from South Africa, I have been living abroad and have over 9 years of experience in the market. I have a passion for helping individuals discover their purpose and further develop their potential through leveraging different cultural values.
I have lived in several countries including South Africa, Australia, Singapore, and Vietnam, giving me deeper insights into different cultures. I joined Hofstede Insights after a career in the pharmaceutical industry working for clinical research organisations such as QuintilesIMS and INC Research with customers including Roche, Takeda, and Pfizer.
I have always been curious about the impact of culture on a society especially coming from a country with numerous cultural and political conflicts. When I moved abroad to Singapore, the differences between cultures became more evident and I was intrigued by the direct versus indirect manner that my Australian and Asian teams communicate. It was then when I started researching Hofstede’s 6-D model and it helped me to understand the reason for these conflicts.
Hofstede’s model helped me resolve these issues through equipping my regional teams to better understand and not judge their different values and needs.I think being aware of different cultural values is the first essential step to help us understand why we are different and then by utilising this knowledge we can leverage our strengths in order to cooperate instead of using negative stereotyping. Always be curious about other cultures and keep on learning.
I have a Master degree in Business Administration from the University of Newcastle, Australia, a coaching certification at the NeuroLeadership Institute and an Intercultural Management certification at itim International (now known as Hofstede Insights).
